Laughil Duke Backed For Another Jennings Derby Success

Owners Paul and Mary Jennings may have suffered a hit when reigning champion Laughil Blake was forced to miss the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, but they now look to have another live contender this year in the form of Laughil Duke.

The Patrick Gulfoyle trained dog is now 12/1 from 25/1 to provide the owners with back-to-back Derby success following his first round victory in a time of 29:45, just two spots slower than the fastest time of the round 29:43.

The aforementioned time was recorded by current Derby favourite Ballymac Matt who recorded the fastest first round time on Thursday night. Farloe Blitz is hot on Ballymac Matt’s heels at 10/1 to land the valuable prize whilst also available at 12/1 is Oaks winner, Ballydoyle Honey, who finished second to Calzaghe Clampet on Saturday night in Round 1 Heat 18.

Laughil Duke is certainly bred to win an Irish Derby with his half-brother, Laughil Blake winning last year’s BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby. He is now into 12/1 to provide owners Paul and Mary Jennings with back to back Irish Derby successes.

Ivy Hill Bart remains the biggest loser in the book for the firm but we are starting to see plenty of support come in for Ballymac Matt who is now the 8/1 favourite to win having set the fastest time in the opening round heats.
