Run Happy Favourite For Gold Cup At Shelbourne Park

The eagerly awaited 2020 Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park kicked off last Saturday with 24 greyhounds through to the quarter-finals this weekend.

We make Run Happy the 3/1 from 5/1 ante post favourite for the €20,000 prize pot. Trained by Pat Buckley, this son of Tullymurry Act and Marlfield Taylor, who finished third in the 2019 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, won the opening round in superb fashion after a break from the track and ran home a comfortable winner in 28.26.

The 2019 Produce Stakes winner Grangeview Ten is the 5/1 second favourite and this Patrick Guilfoyle trained speedster will come on from the run a week ago when he finished second to Owen McKenna’s Malachi in 28.47.

Malachi turns two years of age in May this year and is unbeaten with five from five and looks a promising star for the future with a quote of 66/1 for the 2020 Irish Greyhound Derby.

John Boyle’s runner BoyleSports Xtra is 6/1 to win the Gold Cup and is another runner who will benefit from the run last week. He was badly housed in trap five and although he made the rails with a lightning bolt start from traps, he lost crucial ground which let Run Happy run away with the race.

The 2019 St.Leger champion Ballymac Anton is next in the betting at 7/1 and this Liam Dowling star ran an incredible race from a bad draw of trap six in the opening round to win by 6½ lengths in a blistering 28.18 to Black Buzzer.
