BoyleSports Cheltenham Preview Night With Gordon Elliott – Day 1 Tips
BoyleSports Cheltenham Festival Preview night took place on Thursday, 3rd March with our guest panel of Gordon Elliott, Bryan Cooper, Jack Kennedy, Leon Blanche. Here’s their thoughts on the best races from Day One of the Festival.
Gordon Elliott insisted his five-year-old, who will benefit from a 7lb mares allowance in the Arkle on day one of the Festival, was unlucky not to win the Leopardstown race last month, but is continuing to improve ahead of her Cheltenham reappearance.

“If you had seen this mare at the start of the season; she’s putting on weight every day of the week, she’s improving every day and she looks better every time I see her,” said Elliott.
“I was always a little bit nervous on what she’d find off the bridle. But I loved the way she put her head out and battled at Leopardstown and she was unlucky she didn’t win the Irish Arkle.
“She did nothing wrong that day only make a mistake at the last, but she’s a five-year-old filly and she’s entitled to that.
“I think Haut En Couleurs will be our biggest danger, but Jack Kennedy says Riviere D’etel is his best chance of a winner all week and although I think he has equally as good chances elsewhere, that’s good enough for me.”
Elliott also said he expects the travelling contingent to begin the Festival next Tuesday by winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, with Sir Gerhard (2/1) currently edging favouritism for the opener ahead of Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill (9/4).

“I was over at Nicky Henderson’s yard recently and when he spoke about Constitution Hill he just seemed to light up,” Elliott added.
“He looks good, but I think the Irish are going to win it. I’ll have Three Stripe Life who was fourth in the Champion Bumper last year and he hasn’t done much wrong this year.
“Sir Gerhard is a very good horse, but he is very speedy and the step out to 2m5f would be a worry for me.
“It would also worry me the way he jumped right at Leopardstown, you can’t give away that amount of ground at Cheltenham, because it won’t be good enough. But I’m sure Willie Mullins and the team at Closutton will find plenty of improvement in him.
“Mighty Potter also has a great each-way chance, he’ll love a fast gallop and I could see him picking up the pieces.
“So I’m probably the underdog, but I’ll be trying very hard. For me it’s one of the best races at the Festival.”
