Chevely Park Stakes The Highlight At Newmarket

Newmarket stage some high class Group 1 racing this afternoon and there’s plenty of Irish representation as you would expect.

The Group 1 Middle Park Stakes is likely to throw up a proper Classic contender in Ten Sovereigns but the Cheveley Park Stakes looks a much hotter contest.

Lavery to be ruling Lady at Newmarket

Pretty Pollyanna is a worthy favourite for the Cheveley Park and Michael Bell’s filly has done little wrong but it will be very interesting to see Lady Kaya back over six furlongs.

It is at this stage of the season that we can really start to judge the juvenile form but Skitter Scatter looks a good benchmark in this division and Lady Kaya ran her close at the Curragh on Champions Weekend.

This would be a fairlytale result for Sheila Lavery, Robbie Colgan and owner Joanne Lavery who is a niece of the trainer and couldn’t get €12,000 at the sales for Lady Kaya last year and maybe it is too good to be true.

However, it’s hard to ignore Lady Kaya’s emphatic maiden win at the Curragh earlier in the season and she looked a winner a furlong down in the Moyglare until being outstayed over seven furlongs by Skitter Scatter.

Pretty Pollyanna and the Ballydoyle crew will be hard to beat but Lady Kaya can be expected to give a very good of herself and looks value at 15/2 with BoyleSports.

Arthur can return to winning ways

Tom Dascombe’s Arthur Kitt is picked to return to winning ways in the opening Royal Lodge Stakes. The Royal Ascot winner had to settle for second behind the very talented Too Darn Hot at Sandown earlier this month but lost little in defeat that day.

Arthur Kitt won the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and definitely looks like a colt that will be suited over a mile.

Cape Of Good Hope is the shorter priced of the Ballydole runners but Mohawk shouldn’t be discounted here as he too should be better stepping up in trip but there could just be a bit more to come from Arthur Kitt in a race with nothing of the calibre of Too Darn Hot and over a trip that is more ideal.

Hogan’s Daughter loves Navan

Denis Hogan has done a fine job with Gopsies Daughter this year, winning four races with the seven-year-old and she can light up a rather low-key Navan card today.

Hogan’s charge will need to put in a career best effort to come out on top having started her winning off 49 and now being raised to a mark of 70, but she’s given another chance back at Navan on nice ground where she is already a two time course and distance winner.

Gopsies Daughter has the benefit of Killian Hennessy’s 7lbs claim and Denis Hogan has his team in fine fettle at the moment so she deserves to be given another chance after finishing down the field at the Curragh last time out

Recommended bets
Lady Kaya 7/1 – 2.25 Newmarket
Gopsies Daughter 7/1 – 2.45 Navan
