Too Darn Hot To Burn Up The Curragh?

The Irish 2000 Guineas takes place this Saturday at the Curragh with a surprise entry added to the betting for Ireland’s first Group 1 race of the season.

Too Darn Hot has been made 6/4 second favourite to win the Irish 2000 Guineas

…and miss the Epsom Derby after a surprise declaration on Tuesday morning.

The John Gosden-trained three year-old finished second in the Dante Stakes at York last week with Gosden stating he has come out of the Dante in great shape, and a decision will be made later in the week on whether he will run at the Curragh.

Too Darn Hot, who carries the colours of Andrew Lloyd Webber, was found to have heat in a splint bone last month and he missed the English 2000 Guineas.

Magna Grecia was an impressive winner of the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month for Aidan O’Brien, winning by two and half lengths to King Of Change with Skardu a further length and three quarters back in third.

The son of Invincible Spirit climbed to the head of the ante post market as the Even money favourite to complete the Guineas double. Aidan O’Brien is the leading trainer in the Irish 2000 Guineas with a magnificent 11 wins with Churchill his last winner in the race back in 2017 when he completed the Guineas double.

Phoenix Of Spain is 12/1 for trainer Charles Hills with the Lope De Vega colt finishing second to Magna Grecia on his last run in October in the Trophy Stakes at Doncaster.
