Davy Russell Odds Shorten To Win RTE Sports Personality of the Year

History was created on Saturday in Aintree as Davy Russell and Tiger Roll teamed up again to land back to back Grand Nationals, something that has evaded the history booked for 45 years.

We have made champion jockey Russell a 16/1 shot from 20/1 to be awarded the RTE Sports Personality of the Year with fellow jockey Rachael Blackmore priced up at 16/1 also. Barry Geraghty won this award when he won the Aintree Grand National on Monty’s Pass in 2003.

Back in 1977, Red Rum who was the last horse to win back to back Aintree Grand Nationals in 1974, made a surprise appearance on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony but unfortunately didn’t collect any awards, however the audience loved him.

We have made Tiger Roll or Gordon Elliott a short 5/1 to receive this award.

The favourite in the market is boxer Katie Taylor at Even money with golfer Rory McIlroy available at 10/3. With the potential of the Dublin GAA team making it five All Irelands in a row this year, the option for any Dublin senior footballer to be crowned the RTE SPOTY is 4/1.

Thousands lined the streets of Summerhill in Co Meath to welcome home Tiger Roll and all the team involved with a massive gathering for selfies and autographs from Davy Russell, Gordon Elliott and Michael O’Leary.

It was a magical evening in the trainer’s local area with an elated crowd of fans.
