Elarqam and Gustav Klimt Now Joint 9/4 Irish 2000 Guineas Favourites

There has been some notable movement in the Irish 2000 Guineas market with both Elarqam and Gustav Klimt taking over the reins at the head of the betting as joint 9/4 favourites.

The Mark Johnston-trained Frankel colt, Elarqam, saw a burst of support from punters as they began to latch onto the 3/1 and then 5/2 until traders settled at 9/4.

Aidan O’Brien’s Gustav Klimt, despite finishing sixth to stablemate Saxon Warrior in the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarlet last week was the early 2/1 sole favourite to give trainer O’Brien his 12th win in the race, but has since shortened further to 9/4.

Masar remains priced at 10/1 following suggestions from connections that they are leaning towards The Derby rather than the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Aidan O’Brien’s Broadway has shortened further for the Irish 1000 Guineas after an impressive 2 and half length victory in the EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas on Sunday.

The 3-year-old daughter of Galileo, who was seen finishing third to Lightning Quick (12/1) in the Irish EBF Athasi Stakes last time out, was cut to 12/1 from 16/1 as a result of her first victory.
