Aidan-O’Brien

Follow Galileo To Land More Classic Glory

Attention turns to the fillies on Sunday with the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and there is a strong Irish hand in the race.

Much of the goodwill in the 2,000 Guineas was for Kevin Prendergast so Skitter Scatter will be popular today for John Oxx.

It’s an open race so maybe go with some each-way value.

Follow Galileo To Land More Classic Glory
There is simply no doubting Galileo’s impact on Flat racing and his produce have been a massive part of Aidan O’Brien’s success in recent years.

Surprisingly enough, there is only one Galileo representative running in the Classics this weekend and that is the 20/1 shot Hermosa for Aidan O’Brien and Wayne Lordan.

Lordan took his chance in this race a couple of years ago when winning the 1,000 Guineas on Winter and at the odds he could be worth following again.

Lordan works with Aidan but won the Fillies Mile on Iridessa for Joseph O’Brien last year when beating Hermosa. Donnacha O’Brien has gone with Iridessa this time meaning that Lordan gets the chance on Hermosa who is a big price despite being bang there on ratings.

Sklitter Scatter is officially the highest rated on 114, while Hermosa is 110 but those figures are very much up for debate at this time of year until we see some significant three-year-old form.

Hermosa won her maiden at Galway, which hasn’t been a bad stepping stone in recent years, and while she was well beaten by Skitter Scatter twice last year, she did close the gap a bit the second time.

It is positive that Hermosa ran well at this track last year, albeit behind another of today’s rivals but…

she just looks worth following at those odds in a wide open renewal.

Crosse Can Make The Most Of Crotchet
Joseph O’Brien has been a big supporter of champion apprentice Shane Crosse and with so many big names across at Newmarket, Crotchet can give Crosse another decent winner.

Crotchet has had just one running since being bought by O’Brien last October and it was a nice debut for the yard when second to the consistent Stormy Belle.

Crotchet is drawn well in stall three compared to her stable companion Dramatise in stall number 12 and with Crosse taking off a valuable 5lbs, Crotchet is picked to oblige.

This fillies only event is a trappy affair with recent runner-up Thiswaycadeaux holding a chance and Annie Fior in a good vein of form at the moment.

However, O’Brien has managed to win with a number of horses he has picked up from elsewhere and this ex Richard Fahey-trained daughter of Lethal Force could be relatively well treated off a rating of 91.

The market could give a good guide to this race but…

Crotchet might be the safe option.

Recommended Bets:
Hermosa (20/1) – 3.35 Newmarket
Crotchet – 2.45 Gowran Park
