Galvin Favourite for Galway Plate Success as Elliott Saddles Five Runners
Jett, Peregrine Run, and The Storyteller head the weights after a maximum field was declared for the Galway Plate.
Galvin, who won recently at Killarney, heads the betting as the 6/1 favourite with his trainer Gordon Elliott responsible for a total of five entries. The Cullentra handler completes his squad with Dinons (20/1), Three Musketeers (14/1), The Big Lense (14/1), The Storyteller (16/1) and second reserve Mighty Stowaway (33/1).
It has been nine years since Willie Mullins last trained the winner of the Plate and the champion trainer has made six entries, headed by Easy Game.
Willie Mullins’ highest rated entry, Easy Game fell in the RSA but otherwise looked a high class and progressive novice. He won a Beginners’ Chase at Leopardstown during the Christmas Festival and nearly followed that up with another success only to fall short a half a length to the brilliant Faugheen during the Dublin Racing Festival.
Easy Game is a 9/1 chance but another of Mullins’ main hopes appears to be Royal Rendezvous at 10/1. He won a Naas Grade 3 last time out and is the choice of stable jockey, Paul Townend.
Joseph O’Brien has a trio of runners in and Early Doors (8/1), Us And Them (12/1) and Mortal (20/1) while Henry de Bromhead is represented by Sub Lieutenant (16/1) and Spyglass Hill (10/1) with the rain sure to add to his chances.
Peregrine Run from the Peter Fahey yard has been allotted joint top-weight of 11st 10lbs for the Galway Plate with Jett, Jessica Harrington’s sole entry, and The Storyteller. The favourite is Elliott’s Galvin at 6/1 with champion jockey Davy Russell taking the ride. Early Doors for Joseph O’Brien is the 8/1 second favourite with Easy Game next at 9/1 for the Mullins’ camp.
It will be a different Galway Festival this year but with this line up for the Galway Plate, it looks like we are in for a treat.
