Gordon Elliott Backed Into Favourite For 3rd Cheltenham Top Trainer Title

Cheltenham Festival 2019

Top Trainer

Gordon Elliott has been gambled on to be the Top Trainer at this year’s highly anticipated Cheltenham Festival as the he prepares to defend his title.

Eager punters quickly latched onto the 7/4 available for Elliott, who has won top trainer for the last two successive Cheltenham festivals, seeing the odds crumble into 6/4.

However, that wasn’t enough to deter our customers who continued to get behind the County-Meath based handler leaving traders no choice but to make him the 5/4 firm frontrunner to make it three-in-a-row.

Nicky Henderson has been eased out to 15/8 from 7/4 as a result of the strong support pouring in for Elliott but remains the second favourite in the market.

Henderson was the last British trainer to win the accolade back in 2012 with a total of 7 wins and goes into the festival with not so secret weapon Altior, who is currently unbeaten in 17 starts over hurdles and fences.

Willie Mullins, who is a five-time Top Trainer at the Cheltenham Festival, last in 2016 when his four year reign came to an end, has been eased slightly to 3/1 from 11/4.
