Hermosa Edges Favouritism For Irish 1,000 Guineas

Irish 1,000 Guineas

Outright Betting

An epic clash awaits in the Irish 1,000 Guineas this weekend as Hermosa and Qabala go head-to-head again in Sunday’s second Group 1 race of the day at the Curragh.

Hermosa is the 9/4 favourite to claim the Irish/English 1,000 Guineas double

…after her classy victory at Newmarket earlier this month.

Qabala remains the second favourite at 5/2 after the Roger Varian trained star was supplemented for the race on Tuesday. Qabala finished third to Hermosa at Newmarket with the Galileo 3-year old ending her unbeaten record.

Aidan O’Brien trains five of the eleven runners in the Irish 1,000 Guineas with Hermosa receiving the favourite backers’ support and Just Wonderful the 5/1 third favourite, having finished two and a half lengths behind her stable mate in the English equivalent at Newmarket.

Behind Hermosa that day was Joseph O’Brien’s Iridessa who was an impressive winner of the Fillies Mile Group 1 race at Newmarket last October, beating Hermosa by one and a half lengths at a massive 14/1. We make Iridessa a 13/2 chance with Kevin Ryan’s filly East and Aidan O’Brien’s Fairyland both at 7/1.
