Hollie Doyle Cruises Into Sports Personality Of The Year Contention

Jockey Hollie Doyle has seen a huge increase in support to scoop the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year award next month after she was named The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.

The 24-year old has had a memorable year in which she beat her own British record of most winners in a year by a female jockey, and also became the first woman to steer home five winners in one day in August at Windsor.

Doyle beat the likes darts star Fallon Sherrock and cyclist Lizzie Deignan to the Sunday Times gong.

We have now slashed her chances of picking the coveted BBC award into 22/1 from 66/1.

A BBC spokesperson has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will be honoured at the ceremony for his free school meals campaign, but the Manchester United forward has not made the shortlist for the main award.

That has seen Lewis Hamilton, who was already the 1/2 favourite, sink into 1/6 to pick up the trophy for a second time after he broke Michael Schumacher’s record of Grand Prix victories on route to his seventh World Formula One title this year.
