Kayf Can End Festival On A High For Dreaper

The fillies and mares look like taking stage on the final day of the Punchestown Festival with Limini and Apple’s Jade difficult to oppose in the final two Grade One’s of the Irish jump season.

But with some big field handicaps there are some good opportunities for punters tomorrow afternoon.

Supreme Test
The Palmerstown House Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase (5.00) is the shorter of two staying handicap chases tomorrow and in that Jim Dreaper looks to hold the key with the progressive seven-year-old Kayf Supreme who returns to handicap company after a facile but very much expected win at Thurles last time out.

After having quite a number of runs in Irish point to points it was exactly a year ago when Kayf Supreme made his debut on the track and although he has only won one of his five starts under rules, his run behind Zabana was a very good one at Christmas over an inadequate trip and something for him to build on.

His handicap debut came at Leopardstown in January when he chased home Bearly Legal but his gradual step up in distance seems to be bringing out more improvement with each run and I’d be hopeful he can end the week on high for his connections who are well used to Punchestown Festival success.

3.10 Punchestown
Indeed, the other selection on day five of the Punchestown Festival is the aforementioned Bearly Legal.

Trained by Karl Thornton who is a man that does extremely well with a small string, Bearly Legal ran a cracking race after beating Kayf Supreme at Leopardstown when last time out finishing fifth in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

The Madra Irish Dog Foods Handicap Chase is over a furlong further and

…but for a mistake at the second last in the Irish National, Bearly Legal might have even finished closer to eventual winner Rogue Angel.

Irish National winning trainer Mouse Morris poses the biggest danger tomorrow with Folsom Blue who was brought down in the Scottish National at Ayr when looking like he might run another big race so he’s not to be overlooked either.
