Naval Warfare 50kb

Naval Gazing At Cambridgeshire Warfare

On an action packed weekend of racing Newmarket is the main focus of attention on Saturday ahead of us looking forward to the Prix de ‘Arc de Triomphe on Sunday and an each-way double, featuring a Royal Ascot winner, is one of the advised bets today.

Top Heavy Start At Newmarket
There’s no hanging around at Newmarket today with three Group races for the two-year-olds kicking off the card and while Nelson is now going to be a very short price for the opener…

he would look to be the best bet of the day for anyone who likes to get involved at such short odds as 8/13.

A more appealing bet though is an each-way double in the two Group 1’s with Different League and Beckford.

The French raider, Different League, was a winner at Royal Ascot despite plenty of things going wrong throughout the race and when stepping up to take on the colts at Deauville last time out there was a change of tactics employed that may not have suited the Albany Stakes winner.

The likes of Clemmie and Threading set a high bar but Different League deserves another chance and…

her price certainly does make appeal.

The Middle Park Stakes will see Gordon Elliott’s Beckford drop back to six-furlongs after being beaten in the National Stakes over a furlong further. Two furlongs down in that race he looked all over the winner as he travelled strongly but failed to see it out at the Curragh as good as Verbal Dexterity and that winner could prove to be a very smart juvenile so there was no shame in that effort from Beckford.

Again, taking on the likes of Gimcrack winner, Sands Of Mali and Aidan O’Brien’s Sioux Nation, certainly makes it a fascinating contest but hopefully Beckford and Different League will reward each-way punters.

Stick With Warfare
Andrew Balding’s Brorocco appears to be well fancied for the Cambridgeshire but this corner will opt with his stable companion, Naval Warfare.

The three-year-old has shown a return to form lately after a couple of terrible runs and makes a quick reappearance here after running with credit 10 days ago in listed company.

The step up in trip and the way that this competitive 35-runner handicap will be run could prove to be ideal for Naval Warfare…

who is a decent price at around 16/1.

One For Gowran
The jump racing is starting to really ramp up a bit now and top weight Riviera Light would look a likely winer of the handicap chase at 4.35 and Gordon Elliott’s Brelade can be expected to make a winning start over fences in the concluding beginners chase. He may well be a smart novice chaser for the season ahead and coming from Elliott’s watch he certainly shouldn’t lack a run.

Recommended Bets:
Nelson (8/13) – 1.50 Newmarket
Different League e/w (9/2) – 2.20 Newmarket
Beckford (11/2) – 2.55 Newmarket
Naval Warfare (18/1) – 3.35 Newmarket
Brelade (7/4) – 5.10 Gowran Park
