Punters Revel In Mullins Four-Timer At Cheltenham

Irish punters cashed in on a day to remember for Willie Mullins at Cheltenham on Friday, but bookmakers can feel relieved after well-backed favourites missed out in the first and last races.

Goshen’s fall at the last handed the Closutton trainer a Triumph Hurdle winner to open the day via Burning Victory, but by the time the Gold Cup was ready for the off, he already had a hat-trick on the card thanks to wins for Saint Roi and Monkfish.

Paul Townend and Al Boum Photo then held on from a rallying Santini to land a second successive Gold Cup crown, with BoyleSports quoting 5/1 about the dual winner completing a hat-trick in next year’s race.

Although Willie Mullins saddled an incredible four winners including back-to-back Gold Cups, it would appear that the first and last race results salvaged the day for us.

Turnover levels would appear to be above those of last year and margin is better than expectations.
