Rachael Blackmore Backed Off The Boards To Win Sportsperson Of The Year

Rachael Blackmore has secured the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year award already according to Irish punters who have backed her off the boards at the weekend following her win on Minella Times in the Grand National.

The Tipperary jockey became the first female jockey to ride a winner in the Aintree showpiece to follow up on a stellar week at Cheltenham,

…where she was crowned first female leading jockey in the Festival’s history.

Her Prestbury Park performance had already seen her plunge into odds-on 1/4 from 3/1 with BoyleSports to be recognised in December with RTÉ’s Sportsperson of the Year award, but she looks almost certain now to walk off with the gong after being gambled into a red hot 1/100.

The unrelenting support for Blackmore means all other candidates are on the drift, including boxer Katie Taylor who is now 12/1 from 6/1 and Olympic rowing hopeful Sanita Puspure, who has been eased to 20/1 from 7/1.
