Rekindling Value To Edge Capri

Aidan O’Brien goes in search of more Group 1 and Classic honours at Doncaster this afternoon with Irish Derby hero Capri leading his charge in the final Classic of the season.

The O’Briens were the last Irish connections to win the English St Leger when Joseph rode Leading Light and they could end the short wait for another Irish winner.

Rekindling Value To Edge Capri
Capri is an Irish Derby winner who beat one of the highest rated three-year-olds of the season in Cracksman when winning at the Curragh and that form should probably make him an even shorter price for the St Leger.

However, it is a competitive renewal and it promises to be a fascinating race with arguments easily being made for four or five in the field. Capri would appreciate any rain that the track might get overnight, however, at the prices, Rekindling is 12/1 and that looks too big.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained colt will be ridden by Donnacha O’Brien and you’d get the impression this was his plan since he finished behind Permian in the Dante Stakes.

A winner of the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown, when he had Capri behind, Rekindling went the natural route to the Epsom Derby but clearly hated that place and that was the only major blot on the copybook.

He bounced back to winning ways the following month at the Curragh when stepping up in trip for the first time to 1m6f and beating the Irish St Leger winner Wicklow Brave, and

he lost little in defeat to Order Of St George on his latest start.

After a little break, the Irish St Leger Trial was a perfect stepping stone for either St Leger and connections rightly opted against taking on Order Of St George again last week. They can be rewarded by coming to Doncaster with a memorable family success.

Mullins is the Beau
Minella Beau was to face the highly rated four-year-old Housesofparliament in the two-mile novice hurdle at Listowel on Saturday but with Joseph O’Brien’s charge a non-runner, the Willie Mullins-trained runner is given the nod.

Minella Beau won a point-to-point on heavy ground so the real testing conditions at Listowel won’t be an issue.

Many will fancy the Mullins double of Minella Beau and Brahma Bull in the finale at the Kerry venue.

Ever so Glamorous for Bolger
Tony Martin’s Laganore has been running well lately without getting her head in front but Glamorous Approach is preferred to frank their form from earlier in the season.

At the Curragh back in June, Laganore had to settle for second place behind Glamorous Approach and with the form the Bolger team have been in lately, it could be best to stick with the four-year-old again here.

Glamorous Approach is making a quick return after finishing third to the smart Eziyra on Irish Champions Weekend and that form would look strong enough for her to come out on top here on conditions that will prove a shock to some of these runners.
