Rock Solid Eddy Can Land Lincoln Upset

The British Flat season begins at Doncaster on Saturday with a field of 22 going to post for the Lincoln and it’s an ex-Irish trained horse that could be worth keeping an eye on at double figures.

Yuften looks all but certain to go off favourite as confidence is high about the Roger Charlton-trained six-year-old who had a pipe opener at Wolverhampton three weeks ago in preparation for this assignment.

With Roger Varian having no runner in the race the door is open for Andrea Atzeni to come in for the ride but it’s the ex Johnny Murtagh inmate, Eddystone Rock who looks to have a solid chance in the lucrative one-mile contest.

Home from a stint on ‘The White Turf’ at St Moritz, Eddystone Rock didn’t land a blow on the ice over there in two starts but…

he has got some pockets of form on the turf from last year that suggest he’d have a chance of outrunning his odds on Saturday.

Making his debut for Jim Best, he had a creditable race at Lingfield back in January and could just be capable of landing a blow off a mark of 100. His final run for Murtagh came back in August when winning with an ease in the ground at Tipperary and booking his ticket for the Cambridgeshire, but a setback ruled out that assignment. The horse may well prove his capability by making his mark in the Lincoln at 33/1.

Moore To Get Off To A Flyer
Ryan Moore is 8/1 and fourth favourite with BoyleSports to be champion jockey this season, a title that makes little appeal to him and one that is hard to see him chasing. But he could well bag the first winner on the turf on Saturday courtesy of Tupi for Richard Hannon.

the form of his last run worked out well with The Right Man winning the Al Quoz Sprint last week.

If Birchwood can reproduce his best form, he will be the horse to beat but he may just need a bit further to show his best.

Oscar Can Win Over Hurdles
In the Navan Members Handicap Hurdle the top weight Oscar Knight is reverting to hurdles after some decent efforts over fences and he’ll race 20lbs below his current chase mark and is still two lower over hurdles than he was when winning over fences last time.

This looks a modest affair and the trip of 2m6f should suit him. The Tom Mullins-trained eight-year-old looks to tick plenty of boxes to oblige here under Jody McGarvey.
