Roly In Poly Position At Newmarket

Aidan O’Brien was out of luck at Newmarket on Thursday but he looks to be responsible for the standout bet on day two of the July Meeting at British racing’s HQ.

Seconds out for Roly
On Saturday we’ll have Caravaggio taking on the older horses in the July Cup but this time it is Roly Poly who takes on just a couple of older rivals but can frank the three-year-old filly’s form this year.

Roly Poly had to settle for minor honours behind Winter in both the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes and although she closed the gap on Winter on her latest start, she was unsurprisingly still no match for the dual Guineas winner but that form would appear strong enough for Friday.

Arabian Hope has improved throughout the year while Godolphin’s other runner Wuheida is a Group 1 winning juvenile, but will make her first start this season and I have to give this to…

the still improving Roly Poly who looks a solid pick at 9/4.

Mamba is well placed
There is every chance that Roly Poly could be looking to complete an Aidan O’Brien double at Newmarket because the champion trainer also sends over Churchill’s sister Clemmie for the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.

She has a worthy favourite’s chance after opening her account at Ascot and you can be sure that all she will do is improve so the 2/1 on offer might appeal to most.

However, don’t discount Mamba Noire from a place effort at a big price. Ken Condon’s charge was a winner over furlongs but looks like she could appreciate even further than six over time, and for this assignment she is a 25/1 shot that looks overpriced.

It would be a shock and something would need to be amiss for her to turn the tables of the Curragh form but it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was placed and her odds look too big.

Appleby to get Gold
This is a race that isn’t on ITV racing tomorrow but could be worth taking an interest in. Gold Town will carry top weight and looks to have enough experience to defy that for Charlie Appleby and James Doyle.

Gold Town will have to be the best horse in the race to give so much weight away to some of his rivals – Controversial Lady will carry just 7st7lbs – but his form is in very good company and having failed to land a blow in listed company, he has now been gelded.

He is worth taking a chance on that he can come back to winning ways after clearly been highly thought of previously.

Recommended Bets:
Mamba Noire E/W (25/1) – 2:25 Newmarket
Roly Poly (9/4) – 3:35 Newmarket
Gold Town (11/2) – 4:10 Newmarket
