Sir Dragonet Favourite To Give O’Brien 7th Derby Success

Epsom Derby

Outright Betting

Sir Dragonet was a fantastic winner of the Group 3 Chester Vase last week as he pulled clear from his rivals to win by 8 lengths, to give his trainer Aidan O’Brien a 9th success in the race.

We reacted by slashing the odds on the son of Camelot into 6/1 from 33/1 following his victory,

but further support means he is now the 3/1 favourite in the ante post market for the Epsom Derby

…that takes place on June 1st.

Aidan O’Brien’s tremendous run of Epsom Derby trials success continued last Sunday as he sent a 1-2-3 home in the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown with Broome taking first place.

Broome, a three-year-old son of Australia, now heads to Epsom Downs in an attempt to emulate Galileo and High Chaparral in doing the Derrinstown and Epsom Derby double. We have shortened Broome’s odds into 6/1 from 10/1 for the Derby.

Sir Dragonet has taken over the lead in the ante post market from Too Darn Hot who remains at 4/1 to give John Gosden his third success in the race.

Anthony Van Dyck is another mover in the market for O’Brien with his odds shortening into 8/1 from 12/1, after his Derby Trial Stakes victory at Lingfield on Saturday.

Further movement in the ante post book is expected on Thursday after the Dante Stakes takes place at York with the likes of Japan, Line Of Duty and Too Darn Hot taking their chances in the Group 2 feature.
