Telecaster Plunges For Epsom Derby

Telecaster was an impressive 7/1 winner of the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York on Thursday for trainer Hughie Morrison.

We slashed the odds on the son of New Approach into 8/1 from 25/1 after his one length victory over Too Darn Hot, with Surfman a further four lengths back in third. That didn’t put punters off however,

and he’s now a 6/1 third favourite for the Derby on June 1st.

John Gosden has confirmed that Too Darn Hot will now miss the Derby and aim for the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot instead. As a result, there has been a shake-up in the ante post market with the Chester Vase champion Sir Dragonet now cut into 5/2 from 3/1.

Aidan O’Brien trains the first three horses in the betting with Broome shortened to 9/2 from 6/1 and Anthony Van Dyck 6/1 from 8/1. Japan finished fourth in the Dante Stakes behind Telecaster with his odds drifting out to 14/1 from 6/1 for the Derby in two weeks’ time.
