Tizzards Have Guide To Land Sandown Pot

Ultimately the trainers’ title looks like coming down to the Gold Cup (4.10 Sandown) with £84,405 going to the winner but there’s over £45,000 on offer for the second and third placed horses.

Decider
Southfield Theatre (6/1) is prominent in the betting and likely to go off favourite for Paul Nicholls but he’d be one I’d be keen to take on. The Young Master at 8/1 would appear more solid but a horse who was good to this column earlier in the season might be worth siding with again as Theatre Guide looks overpriced at 16/1.

Colin Tizzard’s nine-year-old is 11lbs higher than when he won at Kempton back in February and while the hope was then that he was a shade ahead of the handicapper on a mark of 139 it is hard to think the same now at 150.

However, it was too early to say how he was going to fare when he fell at Cheltenham.

The conditions here over this stamina test of 3m4f may actually prove to be quite ideal for him.

The Tizzards have obviously had a memorable season and this would be nice pot to land coming to Punchestown with stable stars Cue Card and Thistlecrack and I’d find it hard not to be backing him each-way in what is obviously a very wide open race. His absence from Aintree will hopefully be a plus over some of Saturday’s rivals.
