Uradel The One For Mullins At Naas

Cork and Naas both stage very interesting fixtures on Sunday with the Flat season ending at Naas where the November Handicap is the highlight, while the Cork National looks set to be hotly contested in Mallow.

Willie Mullins does run Minella Beau in the Cork National but he has 10 in the November Handicap as he seeks a big cross-card double.

Rome To Build On Last Day
Minella Beau is a horse that joined Mullins with a massive reputation from the point-to-point ranks and the seven-year-old is an interesting runner in this company as it is his handicap debut over fences.

Over hurdles Minella Beau just had one run in a handicap, that coming at the Punchestown Festival, and he failed to land a blow so off a higher rating for his handicap debut over fences he could prove a bit vulnerable.

Rogue Angel was the selection from this corner for the Munster National at Limerick last time but this time around a chance is taken on Sizing Rome for Jim Dreaper.

Conor Orr takes a valuable 7lbs and he is a conditional rider that is going to attract plenty of interest over the winter months;

Sizing Rome needs that 7lbs claim here though as he is running from 4lbs out of the handicap, but the six-year-old is open to more progression.

Jim Dreaper is a trainer who likes to brings his team on with every run and it is easy to think that that there will be more to come from Sizing Rome following last month’s Punchestown win.

The step up in trip shouldn’t be an inconvenience either and a rating of 111 seems quite lenient for…

Uradel The One For Mullins
Willie Mullins saddled seven in both the English and Irish Cesarewitch’s and now goes in deeper again with 10 of the 20 runners in the November Handicap.

Of that 10, one of the most interesting is Pakora. It was fascinating to be in Galway and listen to him wax lyrical about the five-year-old when she won there but at odds of 1/5 last time out at Bellewstown she was hugely disappointing.

Mullins did say she was hard to keep right so she could be a difficult horse to figure out form wise as time goes on, but certainly she wouldn’t be easily discounted today.

That said, it is her stable companion, Uradel, that is preferred. Also a winner at Galway, Uradel gave the McMahons a memorable day as Aubrey donned the colours of his father Luke to win the big amateur race for the second year in a row.

Uradel now has the services of Declan McDonogh after going down narrowly over a more extreme distance in the English Cesarewitch.

The seven-year-old doesn’t lack speed but is probably better from a mile and a half and upwards and this test of 1m6f at Naas should actually be ideal. A bit of rain around Naas on Saturday shouldn’t do him any harm and being drawn 12 of 20 in this sort of race shouldn’t be an inconvenience.

Cases could be made for so many of the runners in the November Handicap and that is what makes it a race not to be missed. It’s a proper good competitive handicap and it will take some winning, but…

Uradel could have the class and the staying capabilities to see it out.
