Weld With The Discipline To Win At Gowran Park

With three maidens and three low grade handicaps on offer at Gowran Park on Sunday anyone who leaves the Kilkenny venue a millionaire will certainly deserve it.

Weld Is Man To Follow
The €72,500 on offer for the Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes has attracted a British runner to Gowran Park on Sunday as Marco Botti sends over Aljazzi but Dermot Weld has sent out 13 winners in the last three weeks and enjoyed six winners at Listowel this week…

which is a run that could continue courtesy of Discipline in the feature race.

He’ll be no big price and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t jump off favourite but with the ground conditions in his favour and good form in the book, he looks like a horse who will take plenty of beating.

Pricey Socks
One horse of interest that stood out on the Gowran Park card was William Ashford in the first division of the mile handicap. Trainer John Hayden would have a much smaller operation these days but sent out a maiden winner at Down Royal just over a week ago and hopefully he can follow that up with this four-year-old.

William Ashford is back down to a mark of 47, which he won off last year at odds of 20/1, under Tom ‘Socks’ Madden and while the horse hasn’t troubled the judge of late, he hasn’t been entirely disgraced and this type of race looks open enough.

The first time cheek pieces may bring about some improvement and while the ground is a concern…

at a big price he may be able to nick a bit of place money at least.

Recommended Bets
Discipline (2/1) – 3.20 Gowran Park
William Ashford (14/1) – 3.50 Gowran Park
