Sawyer is backing Jarrod Bowen to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

The West Ham forward finished the Premier League campaign with 12 goals and ten assists and has now earned his first call-up to the England senior squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Hungary, Germany and Italy.

“There are only six games until the World Cup so it’s a great chance for newcomers like Jarrod Bowen to shine,” Sawyer told BoyleSports.

“He’ll still have to show form domestically too, but it’s a good chance for Gareth Southgate to step up World Cup preparations and Bowen is one who I’m really looking forward to see in an England shirt.”

“The last time a squad was announced he didn’t make it and it caused a small bit of a ruckus, there were questions being asked as to why he wasn’t in. But he’s been pivotal for West Ham and whether it’s scoring or assisting, his goal contributions have been phenomenal.

“It would be foolish if Gareth Southgate didn’t use him in this international break and I’m sure he could play another pivotal role for England as he does with West Ham.”
