Jonny Clayton Closes Gap On World Darts Championship Favourites

Jonny Clayton has closed the gap on the favourites for the World Darts Championship after he came through a tough assignment against Ireland’s Keane Barry at the Alexandra Palace on Sunday evening.

The BoyleSports World Grand Prix champion found himself in big trouble at 2-1 down in sets, but averaged 114 in reeling off six consecutive legs to book his place in the next round and stay on course for a fifth major title of the year.

‘The Ferret’ has now moved into joint third favourite in the betting to go all the way after joining Peter Wright at 13/2 from 8/1,

…while three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen remains second favourite at 4/1.

That leaves reigning champion Gerwyn Price as the narrow 7/2 frontrunner ahead of a last-32 clash with Ross Smith, who sent last year’s semi-finalist Stephen Bunting packing following a final set tiebreaker.
