Joseph O’Brien: Curragh Round-Up

It was a great weekend’s racing at the Curragh and both myself and my father enjoyed it immensely.

Rekindling
Rekindling won very nicely, Wayne Lordan gave him a lovely ride.

He looks like a nice staying horse for the future.

It was a great performance all round and he was receiving a bit of weight which was a help.

He may go back for the Leger trial at the Curragh again. York is also an option but longer term definitely one of the Legers.

Apparition & True Blue Moon
Apparition ran a really good race on Friday evening. He was a little unlucky. He got going a little bit late but then ran a blinder and hopefully he should remain on a competitive mark.

True Blue Moon ran a very creditable race in the Railway Stakes. He was just caught a bit wide and things just didn’t go 100% for him on the day but he still ran a nice race and there’s more to come from him.

Irish Derby Delight
Once again the Irish Derby went to my father with Capri. It was a great race, very tough and competitive, the most competitive Irish Derby we’ve seen for a while which is great.

Capri was the toughest horse on the day and gave it more than any other horse in the race. Seamie Heffernan got him in a great rhythm and gave him a great ride. He fought all the way to the line. He looked like he was going to be passed and came back again.

All in all, the Derby was a very high class race with good horses that made it very competitive.

Nezwaah was a really impressive winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes yesterday. She stepped up on her previous form, travelled and quickened up well, no excuses.

A quick word before I go, I’ve a few runners at Gowran Park on Tuesday and Spirit Power in the first race is my best chance of a winner!
