In this post, you can find our League of Ireland First Division betting tips and odds ahead of Gameweek 7 of the season.

League Of Ireland First Division Table

Here’s how the First Division table looks after Round Six!

Athlone v Galway United

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st

Where? Athlone Town Stadium, Athlone

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Athlone are currently 5/1 to win, Galway United are heavy favourites at 11/20 while the draw is 11/4.

Preview

Athlone comes into the match in decent form with ten points in their opening six matches with three wins, two draws and only just one defeat. They’ve been extremely efficient with their goal difference to points ratio with nine goals and eight conceded it suggests Athlone always give them a chance to grab some points.

It should also be noted that Athlone are notoriously strong finishers this season with their last three league goals coming in the 82nd minute or later. Last game out they beat Kerry 1-0 away from home with an 88th-minute winner from Valeri Dollia.

Galway’s numbers speak for themselves, six wins from six games for a perfect eighteen points. They are the highest scorers in the First Division with sixteen goals scored while also having the meanest defence having only conceded two.

The unconventional managerial duo of John Caulfield and Ollie Horgan seems to have been exactly what the club needed to finally take the First Division by storm and BoyleSports have installed them as strong 4/6 favourites to win the First Division. Their perfect record has to end at some stage, I just don’t think it will be this game!

Prediction

Galway has been nothing short of imperious this season winning all their matches and I can see that streak continuing!

Cobh Ramblers v Bray Wanderers

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st

Where? St Colman’s Park, Cobh

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Cobh Ramblers are currently 7/4 to win, Bray Wanderers are slight favourites at 11/8 while the draw is 23/10.

Preview

Cobh under the management of Shane Keegan come into this match on the back of a resilient performance in Ballybofey last weekend after coming down from 2-0 behind at half-time. A second-half double from Jack Doherty grabbed them a well-earned point!

Cobh are a likeable side this season and their eleven-point total is now six points less than what they won in the entirety of last season. They started this season around 66/1 to win the First Division title but their early season form now sees them gone into 22/1 which is a testament to how well they have done this season.

Bray comes into this fixture as the only other unbeaten side after league leaders Galway. They have a solid record of three wins and three draws from their opening six matches, putting behind the turmoil of last season and announcing themselves as play-off contenders again.

In their last game they had an impressive 3-2 home victory over Wexford coming from 2-1 behind to win the match when Cole Omorehiomwan completed the comeback with a 70th-minute winner.

Prediction

This is a hard game to split as shown by the tight odds, a win for either would be huge for their promotion hopes but I can see it being a 1-1 which wouldn’t be detrimental to either side.

Wexford v Treaty United

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st

Where? FerryCarrig Park, Wexford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Wexford are 4/5 to win this match, Treaty are 14/5 while the draw is 5/2.

Preview

Wexford comes into this match following a disappointing 3-2 defeat away to Bray despite going 2-1 up inside the first 28 minutes. Aside from the disappointment last weekend, Wexford has been in decent form this season earning seven points from their opening six matches.

The five-goal thriller last weekend was strange for Wexford as they have only scored eight goals and conceded nine this season as they look to put themselves in playoff contention.

Treaty did not play last weekend due to their game v Waterford being called off it means they have only accumulated two points from their opening five matches as they have struggled to continue their form from the previous two seasons. Their last came v Athlone and they looked to have put their poor early season form behind them when an Enda Curran brace put them 2-0 up with goals in the 50th and 69th minute.

Despite an Athlone sending off in the 55th minute, Treaty was unable to hold on for the win as a Late Late show from Athlone meant to be points were shared.

Prediction

Treaty are in dire form despite the continued goal threat of Enda Curran I can see this being a 3-1 win for Wexford.

Waterford v Finn Harps

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st

Where? The Regional Sports Centre, Waterford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Waterford are heavy favourites at 4/11, Finn Harps are 7/1 while the draw is 16/5

Preview

Waterford started the season as many people’s runaway favourites for the league but have only eight points from their first five games.

It still came as a shock to many that following their game v Treaty being postponed that Waterford manager Danny Searle would be sacked on Monday the 27th of March only five games into the season and fifth in the league.

Former Ireland Goalkeeper Brian Murphy has taken caretaker charge while Jon Walters searches for a replacement. It is always interesting times at Waterford and right now is no different.

Following relegation from the Premier Division last season and with Dave Rogers new to the job there was always going be a period of transition up in Ballybofey. However, they have done well recently accumulating six points in their first six matches for an average of one point per match.

Finn Harps will want to recover from a disappointing result last weekend where they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Cobh Ramblers at home. This will be another big test for Dave Roger’s team

Prediction

Waterford should be winning this comfortably on paper, but given the circus that is the club and the Harps’ consistency, you never know. That being said I can only see a 2-0 Waterford win.

Longford Town v Kerry FC

When? 7.30 pm, Saturday, April 1st

Where? Bishopsgate, Longford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Longford Town are heavy favourites at 8/15, Kerry are 5/1 while the draw is 14/5.

Preview

Longford comes into this match with only three points from their opening six matches. Despite this low points tally Stephen Henderson has a side which is competitive, consistent and well-drilled.

They have six goals conceded this season which is only one per match but the problem is up-front where they have only two goals in their opening six games. They will be hoping to grab their first win of the season Saturday Evening.

It’s not been easy for Kerry with five defeats in their opening six matches. It was heartbreak last time out after a valiant performance at home to Athlone an 88th-minute goal from Valeri Dollia meant Kerry would not double their points total for the season just yet!

Signs are good though and the likes of Kevin Williams and Leo Gaxha have proved shrewd acquisitions from the Kerrymen

Prediction

Kerry will win at some stage this season and I’m confident it could be this game. Longford do not score many and Leo Gaxha is a threat going forward! I’m going rogue with Kerry to win 1-0.

We also previewed the next round of action in the League of Ireland Premier Division in a recent post.
