Michael Carrick In The Running For Manchester United Interim Job

Michael Carrick is now among the names being backed to be handed the Manchester United manager’s job on an interim basis until the end of the season after the victory over Villarreal on Tuesday.

Carrick’s first match in temporary charge ended in victory as late goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho sealed the Red Devils a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a match to spare in Group F.

The former England midfielder has since shortened into 7/1 from 8/1 to be appointed on a more permanent basis

…but Spaniard Ernesto Valverde is currently joint favourite after reportedly holding talks with the club over the vacancy.

The former Barcelona manager has fallen into 3/1 having been made a 50/1 shot when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, while Mauricio Pochettino has been eased to 3/1 from 5/2 amid reports PSG are unwilling to let the Argentine move mid-season.

Lucien Favre (7/1 from 33/1) and Rudi Garcia (11/1 from 50/1) have also made notable moves up the betting as they are believed to have already been interviewed for the position.
