Di Caprio Hot For Golden Globe Glory

The Golden Globes is a matter of weeks away and punters have been having their say on who they think will claim the prestigious statuette.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been tipped to walk away with his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, winning his first in 2004 for The Aviator, at strong odds of 1/9.

Michael Fassbender, who plays the titular character in Steve Jobs is in Leonardo’s shadow at 5/1 as is Eddie Redmayne, who is nominated for his role in The Danish Girl. Redmayne is the biggest mover in the category drifting out to 16/1 from his opening price of 5/1.

Brie Larson’s portrayal of Ma in Room has put her at the forefront of the betting for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at 4/9. Soairse Ronan lies third in line at 5/1 for the award, but is not without her support from patriotic punters.

This is Ridley Scott’s third nomination for Best Director and although the award may have eluded him in the past, having been supported into 11/10 from 6/4 for The Martian, he looks set to end the drought. Alejandro González Iñárritu is Scott’s main rival at 9/4 for his directorial role in The Revenant.

Spotlight is dominating the Best Motion Picture Drama category and is by far the best backed nominee having been cut into 2/7 from 4/7. The Revenant is next in the betting at 5/1 with Carol on offer at 8/1 and both Mad Max: Fury Road and Room outsiders at 20/1 and 22/1 respectively.

Adam McKay’s The Big Short looks set to claim Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy after being cut even further as the favourite from 5/6 to 8/13. The Martian is next in the betting, but has suffered a drift to 7/4 from 6/4.

The Golden Globes give a good indication of who might walk away with an Oscar this year and with punters solely focused on Leonardo DiCaprio to win Best Actor, seeing him shorten right in from 2/5 to 1/9, he may finally get that Oscar he has been waiting for.
