Britain’s Kyle Edmund has become the first candidate to see support in the 2018 Sports Personality of the Year market after his stellar run in the Australian Open.

The British Number 2 was part of the Davis Cup side who won the Team of the Year award in 2015 and is the first main gamble of the year in the market

…which has seen him cut into 10/1 from 66/1 to pick up the award in December.

The Yorkshireman saw off third seed Grigor Dimitrov to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final where he will face Marin Cilic for a place in Sunday’s final which could see him leapfrog Andy Murray to become British Number One.

He is a 12/1 shot to walk away with the Australian Open title and become the first British winner since Fred Perry in 1934.

If he goes on to win the tournament he’ll be a main player for the Sports Personality gong, even with the World Cup and Ryder Cup this year, both of which may throw up a few possible winners.

Anthony Joshua is the early 9/2 favourite for Sports Personality of the Year while Harry Kane is next at 9/1 ahead of leading the line for England in the World Cup this summer.
