There were joyous celebrations in Offaly this week when a local walked off with an incredible five-figure payout from a tiny flutter on the Lotto.

The anonymous punter parted with just €0.50 in a local BoyleSports shop in the county on Wednesday and threw it on numbers 5, 9, 11, 33 and 36 to come out in the Lotto Plus 2 draw that evening.

They were facing mammoth odds of 40,000/1 for all five to come out of the machine from the seven drawn.

Incredibly, the lucky native wasn’t even required to wait on the bonus as all five had rolled amongst the six main numbers.

Not content with that, a further €0.50 bet on three of the winning numbers added €165.59 to the total payout.

The staggering run of luck meant the total punt of €1 returned a jaw-dropping total of €20,166.
