Ronnie O’Sullivan Makes Late Move Into SPOTY Contention

The five-time World Champion picked up a record 7th UK Championship crown by beating Mark Allen in the final just a week before the Sports Personality award is handed out.

A renewed burst in support for the Londoner saw his odds collapse into 12/1 from 33/1 with BoyleSports as he bids to become only the second snooker to scoop the accolade, after Steve Davis took the honours in 1988.

Harry Kane was backed into favouritism this week, being supported into 11/8 from 5/2 for the award after taking home the Golden Boot from this summer’s World Cup in Russia. That puts him ahead of previous favourite Geraint Thomas, whose Tour de France win sees him lie as the 5/2 second favourite for the coveted prize.

The chances of Tyson Fury earning the plaudits at Sunday’s evening’s show in Birmingham have cooled as he drifts to 8/1 from 5/1 despite claiming a moral victory after his draw with Deontay Wilder.

We expect Ronnie O’Sullivan’s rise up the betting will be the last major move before the Sports Personality award is handed out…

but the famous trophy looks up for grabs in what is an open market.

Harry Kane and Geraint Thomas have traded places at the head of the betting a handful of times and it looks like Kane will go into the show as the jolly at this stage.
