Boris-Johnson

Barrage Of Bets See Boris Backed To Replace May

Boris Johnson is now the runaway favourite to be the next leader of the Conservative Party after a deluge of bets on the former Foreign Secretary saw his odds collapse.

When asked last week whether he would be a candidate in a leadership election, Johnson confirmed ‘Of course’ he would ‘go for it’ as Theresa May confirmed she will soon reveal the timetable by which she will make her exit as PM.

A subsequent poll suggested that Johnson was the choice of party members to be the next leader and the bets have piled in on him taking the reins when May steps down. BoyleSports slashed his leadership chances into 2/1 from 5/1 at the weekend, however as the support continued, they cut him further into 13/8, making him a clear favourite ahead of former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, who is the 5/1 second favourite.

Michael Gove, a previous favourite who was as low as 4/1, is now out at 10/1 but Rory Stewart has made his way up to 16/1 from 40/1 after claiming he could bring the country together as PM.

The race for the Tory leadership is well under way, but there’s only one name dominating the betting so far. The polls put Boris Johnson ahead and so does all the recent money…

as he is now the shortest price he’s ever been at 13/8 and his odds are only going in one direction.
