Boris Races Clear In Betting After TV Clash With Hunt

A renewed burst of support for Boris Johnson becoming the next leader of the Conservative Party has seen his odds crumble to an all-time low following a TV debate between himself and Jeremy Hunt.

Jeremy Hunt went head-to-head with Johnson in the ITV debate on Tuesday evening and seemed to strike a blow on the runaway favourite when he explicitly backed the UK ambassador to the US Kim Darroch against an attack from Donald Trump following explosive leaked memos, which criticised the American President.

However Hunt’s performance has failed to trigger a swing in the betting.

Boris Johnson cemented his place as the clear favourite as he plummeted into 1/20 from 1/9.

That puts the former Foreign Secretary at his lowest price yet to replace Theresa May, with Jeremy Hunt’s chances drifting from 5/1 to 8/1.

The new leader could also have a general election in their in-tray as the chances of one taking place this year is priced at 6/5, making it the most likely year of the next four to host the next visit to polling stations.
