Maria Bailey Facing Outside Odds To Keep Her Dáil Seat

Maria Bailey could hit the headlines for losing her seat again in the future after punters backed her vote to take a fall at the next Irish General Election.

The Fine Gael TD claimed she suffered head, lower back and hip injuries when falling from a swing at a well-known hotel but has since dropped a personal injury claim after rival parties claimed it contradicted government policy on litigation culture.

She drew further criticism on Monday for a radio interview in which she defended her position, with Health Minister Simon Harris calling her decision to appear on the airwaves as ‘unfortunate.’

We now rate Bailey’s chances of retaining her seat in Dún Laoghaire at 6/1 at the next General Election

…after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the incident had caused ‘reputational damage’ to his party and that it had become an issue on the doors during the recent election campaign.

Fine Gael remain the favourites to return most seats at the next General Election, but they were eased to 8/15 from 2/5 as counting continued on Monday. Fianna Fáil are 11/8 from 6/4 while the Green Party crashed into 66/1 from 500/1 following strong returns at the local elections.
