Mary Lou McDonald Clear Favourite To Be Next Taoiseach

Taoiseach Micheál Martin may have received a boost in the most recent opinion poll, but Mary Lou McDonald has started the year as the hot favourite to take over as Taoiseach after the next election.

The latest polling figures have seen McDonald’s support grow and the Sinn Féin leader’s chances of becoming Taoiseach have been trimmed into their lowest ever mark at 11/10 from 11/8.

This now makes her the clear favourite for the first time since the market was introduced.

The Behaviour and Attitudes poll for The Sunday Times conducted last month put support for Fianna Fáil up three points to 22%, but Sinn Féin’s gain of two points to 32% saw them top the poll.

This has resulted in the party being backed into 4/6 from 8/11 to win the most seats at the next election.
