Simon Harris Odds Drop To Replace Varadkar As Fine Gael Leader

Current leader of Fine Gael, Leo Varadkar, has been leading the country through the COVID-19 crisis, but it hasn’t put punters off backing the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, to replace him.

On Saturday morning, the bets started to arrive for Harris, with his odds backed into 18/1 from 28/1 with BoyleSports to take over leadership of the party following his outstanding performance during the coronavirus pandemic.

Simon Coveney has been deputy leader since losing out to Varadkar in the leadership election in 2017 and remains the 4/11 favourite to take over as leader of Fine Gael, with those odds tumbling gradually from Even money over a month ago.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe is the second favourite at 8/1 with those easing from 13/2, while Helen McEntee remains a 9/1 shot. The chances of a second election are also on the cards as the possibility was backed into 9/2 from 7/1 with punters keen to get back behind Fine Gael.

Simon Harris has been picking up momentum to be the one who replaces Varadkar as Fine Gael leader with those odds crumbling into 18/1.
