Alan Quinlan – Rugby World Cup Outright Betting Preview

Ex-Ireland and Munster player Alan Quinlan speaks to BoyleSports to run the rule over the outright betting markets for the Rugby World Cup.

“There’s four or five world class leaders in this team…”

I think New Zealand might be a little bit short as their form this year has been a little bit up and down.

South Africa have shown a lot of promise and are certainly going to be there or thereabouts. They are very difficult to beat.

However, I think the team to back are the third favourites – England. They’re my favourites to win this World Cup. Their form in the warm-ups was very, very positive. They did lose in Cardiff, but I just think with Itoje, Vunipola, Tuilagi and Owen Farrell they have four of five world-class dominant leaders.

And if they stay injury-free I think they can cause trouble for anybody. Having looked at the groups, if they and New Zealand top their groups, they may end up meeting each other in the semi-finals. That would be a real titanic battle.

So, I think the team to have a few bob on is England, the third favourites.

“I think the way they play, he could score a lot of tries”

Usually the favourites are the ones you keep an eye on closest as they’re the ones with the ability to cut open defences several

Sevu Reece is 8/1, as is Rieko Ioane, a prolific try scorer for New Zealand since he made his debut a couple of years ago.

Cheslin Kolbe, the South African winger, is 9/1 and is a phenomenal player who can just unlock defences with a piece of brilliance.

I think Jonny May at 10/1 is great value, if I’m right about England’s dominance and they’re on the front foot and getting big score-lines.

I also think George North could score a lot of tries for Wales at this World Cup and he is 28/1. Probably Ireland’s most prolific is Jacob Stockdale at 12/1.

If I was to pick someone, though, I’d pick Sevu Reece from New Zealand.

I think with the way New Zealand play, the score-lines they’re capable of getting, he could score a lot of tries.

BoyleSports are paying 7 Places on the Top Tournament Tryscorer, which I think is brilliant. It’s a great chance to make a few bob and pick some of those big name.
