Seeley’s Selections – Chelsea v Liverpool – Capital One Cup

“Thank God that weekend is over” that’s what BoyleSports punters and myself will be saying this morning after the carnage that was the FA Cup fourth round.

On a weekend of massive shocks, the biggest by far and in my opinion, the biggest FA Cup upset of all time was at Stamford Bridge where the odds-on Premier League favourites threw away a two goal lead to lose to League One Bradford.

Just how will Jose Mourinho’s side bounce back from that embarrassment in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at home to Liverpool is anybody’s guess but I expect them to make wholesale changes and I think this could be a decent time to play the Blues.

Since the start of 2015, the warning signs have been there for all to see, they were smashed 5-3 by Tottenham at White Hart Lane on New Years Day and were very lucky to come away with this tie still intact after a 1-1 first leg draw at Anfield and then the Bradford defeat… which is best left unspoken about.

Mourinho has a poor record against Liverpool in cup competitions winning just three matches in the ten cup ties; hardly “special” is it? and I think that unwanted record will continue in this one.

Chelsea are very short to win inside 90-minutes at 8/13 with BoyleSports to book their place in another Wembley final but I think the timing couldn’t be better for Brendan Rodgers’ side to play them with one eye on the Premier League decider with Manchester City at the weekend and just three days after Bradford. A week ago we were talking about The Blues winning a historical quadruple and in seven days their season could easily self destruct.

Even though I don’t fancy the home side, I still can’t bring myself to back Liverpool either at 19/4 which is the carrot being dangled by BoyleSports.

The best way to get involved here is on the Liverpool (double chance) market at a bargain price of 13/10 with BoyleSports as the only way we will lose is if Chelsea win the game in 90-minutes and I don’t fancy them to do that.

I do fancy goals though; Chelsea games this year have seen 26 of the beauties in their six matches and both teams to score at BoyleSports’ 3/4 and over 2.5 goals in the game at 8/11 are both worth an involvement.

Raheem Sterling tore the Chelsea defence to pieces in the first leg with his pace and that is one area the Rodgers will look to exploit again against the pedestrian duo of John Terry and Gary Cahill and the 16/5 with BoyleSports on the England star to net again is worth a look as is the 8/1 with BoyleSports on him to open the scoring in a game which will be set up for his pace on the counter-attack.
