Seeley’s Selections – Aston Villa v Southamton

Aston Villa v Southampton

Match Betting

I’ve left the best to last in this weekends Premier League with my best bets in the Monday Night Football when Aston Villa host high flying Southampton at Villa Park.

Since the Premier League was formed back in 1992 only 58 teams which didn’t feature in the previous seasons top six have been odds on away from home in a top flight match and Southampton will make that 59 on Monday night.

The Saints are 3/4 to win here with Boylesports and however crazy that price might have looked at the start of this campaign, right now it’s a very serious wager and we should all go marching in.

Ronald Koeman’s side are second in the table with 11 wins from their last 12 matches and it’s impossible to look past them in this one even at the odds-on quotes. Villa come into this one as Boylesports 17/4 outsiders to gain their first win in their last eight Premier League games, it just isn’t going to happen.

Villa have only scored once in that period and have conceded an average of two per game and if Monday night’s task wasn’t hard enough they will have to do it without suspended top goalscorer Christian Benteke and defensive rock Ron Vlaar. I can’t see Boylesports keeping Southampton’s 3/4 price lasting until kick-off and fully I expect to see one of the major gambles of the season on them during the next 24 hours and I agree this could be a very comfortable evening for Koeman’s men.

The Saints’ have won three of their last four matches to nil and against a powder puff Villa attack the 7/4 with Boylesports on them to do so again is a bet that I will be getting heavily stuck into.

Last year this match finished 0-0 and no goalscorer on Monday is 15/2 with Boylesports thats the best Villa can hope for but I really can’t see a Vlaar-less defence keeping the Saints at bay. Only five goals have been scored in this fixture in the last five years and “both teams not score” has landed in all those five at 4/5 with Boylesports thats another way to get involved.

As you can see, all my betting strategy in this match is on Villa not scoring, if they do I might not make it to the Champions League previews. If you like your betting to reward you with a bigger and better returns then a 2-0 win for the visitors at 13/2 with Boylesports is recommended and with team news uncertain, if Southampton Republic of Ireland international striker Shane Long starts, after his brace as a substitute last weekend he would be my first goalscorer selection at 4/1.

REMEMBER – “Double Bubble” If your first goalscorer selection nets inside the opening 20 minutes Boylesports will double the odds on your winning selection.
So if Long nets an early opener we will be paid out a 8/1 – That’ll do for me.

Seeley’s Selections
Back Southampton To Win To Nil @ 7/4
Back Shane Long for First Goalscorer @ 4/1
