Seeley’s Selections – Wednesday’s Champions League Tips

It’s a winner takes all battle in Rome on Wednesday night when Italian giants Roma clash with the Premier League champions Manchester City with a place in the Champions League last 16 at stake for the winners.

City were dead and buried in Group E but their last gasp 3-2 win at the Etihad against Bayern Munich has given them a huge life-line and it’s in their hands whether they can sign off with a win away in Rome.

City, arrive here in great form with five successive wins and with just two losses from their last 12 away games but on big European nights they’ve always failed to perform and at 15/9 with Boylesports to get the win they need here, that is a dangerous betting strategy.

The big blow for Manuel Pellegrini’s side is the absence of star-man Sergio Aguero through injury.
The Argentinian was the difference between City and Munich last time out netting a sublime hat-trick.

Without him in the side I really couldn’t back them and if the lose of Aguero wasn’t bad enough they have to go to war here without the suspended Yaya Toure and I wouldn’t want to touch them without that duo.

The way the game is set up with both sides desperate for the win, it’s impossible not to see goals at either end.
Both teams to score is a very confident selection in this one at Boylesports 4/7, it’s probably a little to short for a single but it’s certainly a banker in the midweek accumulators.

Roma are 6/4 with Boylesports to get the win they need and if you look past their 1-7 demolition by Bayern Munich they have a great record in the Stadio Olimpico this season with eight wins and just one draw.

Rudi Garcias’ side have scored in everyone of their home games this season and the only time they failed to score two or more was in that heavy Munich defeat.

Over 2.5 goals in the match looks in the bag at 7/10 with Boylesports but for a better bet go over three goals in the match which is available at 17/10.

I’m finding it impossible to have a strong view of the outcome of the game and I could make a case for all three options , so instead of finding a winner I think we should concentrate all our betting on lots of goals and cards.

With so much at stake I can’t see both teams ending the 90-minutes with 11 men on the pitch.
The last two City champions league matches has seen three players red-carded and I can see on another sending-off in this one.

Frank Lampard has made a career of scoring vital goals and with the absence of Aguero and YaYa Toure he would be my choice of a first goalscorer at a very tasty 9/1 with Boylesports.

BTTS @ 4/7
Over 2.5 goals @ 7/10
Frank Lampard First Goal @ 9/1

Chelsea v Sporting
CHELSEA may have lost at the weekend but they never lose at Stamford Bridge and thats not going to end in this one when they host Sporting Lisbon in their final Champions League game in Group G.

The Blues’ are tempting at Boylesports 4/6 to win here and when you consider he may rest a whole host of players with top spot guaranteed you might not want to get to heavily involved, then you look at the reserves.
Petr Cech is expected to start along with French international Loic Remy and World Cup winner Andre Schurrle and suddenly the 4/6 doesn’t look so bad after all.

The wealth of talent at Mourinho’s disposal is frightening and even at the short odds it’s impossible not to see a straight forward home win.

Sporting Lisbon are just 5/1 with Boylesports and are being backed to produce the victory in this one but with former Man Utd winger Nani ruled out through injury and key man Cedric suspended it’s impossible to make any kind of case for the visitors.

Sporting have a shocking away record in Europe also with just one win from their last 17 away trips and can’t be trusted in this one.

The Portuguese need just a draw to seal a place in the last 16 and they are 14/5 with Boylesports to achieve that, but I can see Chelsea proving far to strong and with a point to prove after the weekend defeat, conspiracy theorists might want to get involved but not me.

The Blues thumped Schalke 5-0 in their last Champions League appearance and in their last game at The Bridge they humiliated Maribor 6-0, I really can’t see the Blues winning by those heavy score-lines but I can’t seem them conceding.

A Chelsea win to nil looks a much better betting alternative at a lovely looking 17/10 with Boylesports rather than the odds-on about a home win.

In the reverse fixture in the Portuguese capital Chelsea game through a tough one 1-0 and at 11/2 with Boylesports on a repeat score-line I tempted by those odds.

Chelsea have won their last seven fixtures against Portuguese clubs, all by a single-goal margin that is also is on my betting radar.

Loic Remy is expected to lead the Chelsea attack as a lone striker and the French international is always a goal threat in the games when called into action and the 5/1 with Boylesports on the former QPR striker netting the opener he looks the sensible call.

Chelsea To Win To Nil @ 17/10
Loic Remy First Goal @ 5/1
