According to former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson this England team have the best attack at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Eriksson managed the country to a World Cup quarter-finals appearance at both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups so he has plenty of insight on the challenge the Three Lions will face at this stage of the tournament.

We started off by asking him for his reaction to the game against Senegal last night.

What did you make of the game last night?

England were great yesterday – it was another super display from them.

They didn’t start extremely well but after the first goal they controlled everything.

They scored three goals, all counter attacks and England are very good at that as they have the skill in one on one situations and the pace.

They are one of the best counter-attacking sides in the tournament and it showed.

Do England have the best attack in the tournament?

I think England do have the best attack in the tournament, but Mbappe is not that bad!

England have so many solutions. Kane should always play but around him there’s so many to choose from, yesterday it was Foden and Saka.

They were extremely good but they also have Sterling too – though he wasn’t playing yesterday.

They also have Rashford, who has pace, skill – it makes England so strong.

What’s stopping England winning the tournament?

If you look at the table it’s very interesting. The next game against France is a very difficult one but England can win, for sure.

If they do win they meet Portugal or Spain next and that’s also not easy. If they reach the final it’s probably Brazil.

They have to beat three very good football teams to win the World Cup but I think they can do it.

I can’t see France or Spain or Portugal or Brazil better than England, but it’s not easy.

Do you regret saying Harry Maguire should not be in the England team?

I’m very happy that Harry Maguire has proved me wrong when I said he shouldn’t start.

He’s proved again he’s a very good international player once again and he missed some passes yesterday but on the whole he was very good.

I’m happy that I was wrong and he’s showing the world that he can be a very world class centre back.

How good is it for England that Kane got off the mark?

Kane’s goal has come at just the right time and if he can score goals regularly as he normally does then it’s an extra bonus for England.

Henderson even scored and that’s not normal but if Kane can keep scoring I fancy England to go all the way.

If he can start putting the numbers that Mbappe is putting in, then you’d have to say England will win it as the rest of England’s team is superior to France’s.
