More punters are now siding with Manchester United than Tottenham in the betting for a top four finish in the Premier League this season after Erik ten Hag’s side ran out comfortable winners over the North Londoners on Wednesday night.

A deflected shot from Fred and a second from Bruno Fernandes handed the hosts a deserved win at Old Trafford, which took them to within a point of the top four and within four points of their opponents with a game in hand on Antonio Conte’s men.

The chances of United finishing the season in one of the four automatic qualification spots for the Champions League were clipped into 15/8 from 5/2 by BoyleSports after the final whistle, while Spurs were eased to 5/6 from 8/13.

Cheslea’s top four odds are also going in the wrong direction after their stalemate at Brentford saw them drift to 4/5 from 4/6, but Liverpool are now 2/5 shots from 1/2 as a first half header from Darwin Nunez was enough for the Reds to see off West Ham at Anfield.

Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Everton took them to within two points of Chelsea in fourth and while the Magpies have played a game more than many of their neighbours in the standings, their chances of a top four finish come May have nonetheless shortened into 8/1 from 10/1.

Nottingham Forest (2/7) and Bournemouth (10/11) are the two sides odds-on in the fight against relegation, with Leicester (7/4), Wolves (5/2), Southampton (11/4), Fulham (3/1), Everton (3/1 from 5/1) and Leeds (7/2) all rated in danger in a tight bottom half of the table.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Manchester United appeared to have a bit of swagger back against Tottenham and it hasn’t gone unnoticed with punters. More and more are banking on the Red Devils in the race for the top four and at 15/8 from 5/2 they are really starting to take a chunk of the support away from the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.”
