If you were asking yourself ‘when is the Open?’ or ‘where is the Open Championship 2023’ then you’re in luck as we explain all in this post!

Open Championship 2023 Details

When is the Open Championship 2023?

The Open Championship 2023 will take place between the 20th-23rd July 2023.

Where is the Open Championship 2023?

The 151st Open will be played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. You will also hear the golf course referred to as ‘Hoylake’.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club has hosted the Open Championship 12 times in its history which puts it fifth on the list of courses to host the most Open Championships.

The most recent time that Royal Liverpool hosted The Open was in 2014.

Who Won The Last Open Championship at Royal Liverpool?

Rory McIlroy won The Open the last time it was played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in 2014. That victory at Hoylake was McIlroy’s first and only Open Championship win to date and the third major victory of his career.

McIlroy finished on -17 for the tournament which was two shots better than both Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia who came T2nd on -15.

What Channel Is the Open Championship On?

The Open 2023 will be televised in Ireland and the UK on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event.

Who Won The 2022 Open Championship?

The 2022 Open Champion is Cameron Smith. The Australian golfer won the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews Old Course last year on a score of -20, one better than American Cameron Young and two shots better than Rory McIlroy.

Open Championship 2023 Odds

Rory McIlroy – The Open Favourite

The favourite to win The Open 2023 is Rory McIlroy at odds of 8/1. McIlroy has not won a major in almost nine years with his last major victory coming at the 2014 USPGA Championship.

The Northern Irish golfer is the last person to win The Open at Royal Liverpool with his victory in 2014 so the course form is certainly working in his favour ahead of this Open Championship. The four-time major champion has underwhelmed in the big events so far in 2023.

The Hollywood native missed the cut at The Players Championship and then went on to miss the cut at the Masters having started the tournament as the betting favourite. McIlroy played brilliantly at last year’s Open but just couldn’t buy a putt in the final round which meant he would have to settle for a 3rd place finish and yet more major disappointment.

Jon Rahm – The Open Second Favourite

The second favourite in the betting for the Open Championship 2023 is Jon Rahm at odds of 9/1. The Spaniard won the year’s first major at the 2023 Masters by four shots in what was an incredible display of golf over all four days.

The reigning Masters Champion could potentially go into the 2023 Open with the chance of completing the career Grand Slam if he wins this year’s USPGA Championship.

Rahm’s best finish at The Open is T3 which he achieved in 2021 at Royal St George’s. Apart from that T3 finish in 2021 the Spaniard has not performed well in this tournament with no other top 10s in his five other Open Championship starts.

With that being said, Rahm has won the Irish Open twice, in 2017 at Portstewart and in 2019 at Lahinch so he certainly knows his way around a links golf course.

Scottie Scheffler

Coming in at third in the betting market for the 2023 Open is Scottie Scheffler who has been installed at odds of 11/1. The 2022 Masters Champion is Mr. Consistent in the golfing world so you can expect him to be there or thereabouts at this year’s Open Championship.

Scheffler put in another solid performance at the 2023 Masters as he defended his title with a T10 finish. It wasn’t his best performance but still a respectable tournament defence. Earlier in the year Scheffler won The Players Championship which is often described as ‘golf’s fifth major’.

The American’s best finish at The Open came in 2021 when he finished in a tie for 8th. His only other appearance at The Open came last year in 2022 when he ended the tournament in a tie for 21st place.

What Odds Is Tiger Woods To Win The Open 2023?

Tiger Woods is 66/1 to win The Open 2023. While Tiger can’t be counted out it does look unlikely that he will win his fourth Open Championship this year due to his fitness struggles.

Woods did come in a tie for 8th at the 2018 Open but has failed to make the cut at this tournament in his two appearances since then. If there is a major that Tiger can win then you’d have to pick The Open as golf knowledge and course knowledge is at its most important on links golf.

The 15-time major champion has also previously won The Open at Royal Liverpool when it hosted the event in 2006. Woods finished on -18 that year, two shots better than Chris DiMarco.
