When is the USPGA Championship? 2023 USPGA Odds, Course & Tips

If you’ve been wondering – when is the USPGA Championship or where is the USPGA Championship then this is the post for you as we explain all!

USPGA Championship 2023

When is the USPGA Championship?

The USPGA Championship takes place between May 18-21, 2023. The PGA Championship previously used to be the fourth and final major in the golf calendar before it was changed to May in 2019.

Where is the USPGA Championship?

The USPGA Championship 2023 is in Oak Hill East Course, Rochester, New York, USA. The 2023 USPGA will be the third time that the USPGA Championship is played at Oak Hill Country Club.

Oak Hill Country Club was founded 122 years ago in 1901 and is best known for its East golf course.

The club has hosted five major championships to date, three of those were US Opens (1956, 1968 and 1989) and two USPGAs (2003 and 2013). Oak Hill also hosted a Ryder Cup in 1995 when Europe beat the USA for the Europeans second ever victory on US soil at that time.

Why Did the USPGA Move To May?

The reason that the USPGA was moved to a May date is because it was typically viewed as the least prestigious of the four majors. It used to be marketed as ‘Glory’s last shot’ but the event being the final major didn’t seem to be helping it’s profile and perception the golf world.

The idea behind moving it to May and making it the second major in the golf calendar was to give the event more exposure and also was expedited by the PGA’s desire to move the FedEx Cup Playoffs forward in the calendar.

Who Won The Last USPGA At Oak Hill?

Jason Dufner won the USPGA the last time the event was hosted at Oak Hill Country Club in 2013. The American finished on -10 that week, beating fellow countryman Jim Furyk by two strokes.

The 2013 USPGA Championship at Oak Hill was Dufner’s first and to date only major championship win. The first and only other time that the USPGA was played at Oak Hill it was won by Shaun Micheel on a score of -4 which was good enough to beat Chad Campbell by two strokes.

Like Dufner, that win was Micheel’s only ever major championship and in fact his only ever PGA Tour victory! Will we see another first time winner at Oak Hill at the 2023 USPGA?

What Channel is the USPGA 2023 On?

You can watch the 2023 USPGA Championship on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event.

Who won the 2022 USPGA Championship?

Justin Thomas defeated Will Zalatoris in a three-hole aggregate playoff to win his second PGA Championship. His other USPGA victory came in 2017 after coming from seven shots behind in the final round to win. That Sunday performance tied the largest comeback in PGA Championship history.

The 2023 USPGA Championship Odds

Jon Rahm – USPGA Championship Co-Favourite

The World Number 2 is the joint-favourite in the market for the 2023 USPGA Championship despite his form at the event being patchy. Rahm has only finished in the top-15 in three of his seven appearances at the event with the best of those finishes coming in 2018 when he came tied for 4th.

The Spaniard comes into this competition in strong form with 6 top-25 appearances and 3 victories from his 8 starts in 2023 (correct as of the 7th of April). He most recently withdrew before the second round of The Players through illness which meant he relinquished his spot as World Number 1 to Scottie Scheffler.

Jon Rahm is 9/1 to land the 2023 USPGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy – USPGA Championship Co-Favourite

The World Number 3 is the joint-favourite in the market for the 2023 USPGA Championship which has always been a good tournament for Rory. The Northern Irishman won the event in 2012 and 2014 while coming 8th in it last year.

From the Northern Irishman’s first 5 starts in 2023, he has one win and one 2nd place finish. Last time out he was cut at The Players Championship with a score of +5 while his last victory came back in January at the Dubai Desert Classic (correct as of the 7th of April).

Rory is 9/1 to land the PGA Championship for the third time.

Scottie Scheffler – USPGA Championship Co-Favourite

The World Number one and 2022 Masters Champion is another joint favourite for this year’s tournament. The 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year has continued his strong vein of form into the 2023 season. Fom his first 9 starts he has placed 8 times in the top 25, 6 times in the top 10, 1 third and 2 wins.

Scheffler’s most recent victory came in the acclaimed  “fifth major” the Players Championship (correct as of the 7th of April). He has made three appearances at the tournament coming tied for 4th in 2020 tied for 8th in 2021 and he was cut last year.

Scottie Scheffler is 9/1 to win the USPGA Championship in only his fourth appearance at the event.

Justin Thomas 16/1

The World Number 10 is coming into this event as the defending champion following his heroic seven-shot final-day comeback in 2022 to defeat Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff and win his second PGA Championship, the first which came in 2017.

This season Thomas has been consistent yet unspectacular with 6 top-25 appearances and 2 top-10s in eight events (correct as of the 7th of April).

Justin Thomas will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of USPGA Championships and win his third title at 16/1.

Colin Morikawa 20/1

The World Number 12 is coming into the event in decent form in 2023. From ten events played he has 1 Runner-Up, 3 Top-10s and 5 Top 25 appearances (correct as of the 7th of April).

Morikawa actually won his first appearance at the USPGA in 2020 and only his second major championship. His final round of 64 tied the lowest final round score shot by a PGA Champion, matching Steve Elkington in the 1995 PGA Championship.

The American also became the third youngest golfer to win the PGA Championship when he won the event at age 23. In 2021 he came tied for 8th and in 2022 tied for 55th at the event.

Colin Morikawa is 20/1 to win the USPGA for a second time.

What Odds Is Tiger Woods To Win The 2023 USPGA Championship?

Tiger Woods is currently 66/1 to win the 2023 USPGA Championship. These odds suggest that Tiger is a massive longshot to win the USPGA in 2023 and it would be the longest odds to win the tournament since Jimmy Walker won the competition at odds of 125/1 in 2016.

If Tiger were to win the 2023 PGA Championship he would tie Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen for the most PGA Championship wins with 5 tournaments victories.
