Who is DIDE? Odds On Identity Of Premier League Rapper

Who is DIDE? That’s the big question in Premier League circles these days and now we have odds on the identity of this Prem player.

Who Is DIDE?

On the 14th of April a masked rapper who referred to himself as “DIDE” released a song titled “Thrill” which already has 1.3 million views on YouTube along with two other music video which has over 300K views between them both.

That is not the story though, the story is “DIDE” claims to be a top-flight footballer which has put football fans into a frenzy as they try and figure out who it could be!

You can check out the song below.

In each video, DIDE wears a black and silver face mask as he raps about his lavish lifestyle, football finesse and his political positions along with a multitude of other topics addressed in his music.

DIDE appears to rap in a Southern accent which has many speculating that the footballer is from London, but for now all that’s just speculation with DIDE keeping details about his “team” and “position” vague.

Clues About The Identity of DIDE

Clues do exist though, in his first video titled “Intro” the video description says  “Premier league footballer jumps in the UK music scene with this freestyle video. Footballers such as Foden, Neymar and Kane all receive references.

The footballer makes an apparent reference to his career “Lately my heads been all over the place. A lot of times it could have gone left, and I could have got benched cause the play weren’t great.” and “and I’m fast on the clock, man’s speedy, one-two and I’m gone like Ney”. The reference to his “speed” could mean he is a winger? But even that is a reach at this stage…

The alternate argument remains that it could be just an incredibly designed marketing ploy with him amassing over 52K YouTube subscribers and 79.5K Instagram followers in rapid time. If it does turn out to be a Premier League Footballer, he won’t be the first to make that pivot with the likes of older stars like John Barnes and Andy Cole doing similar feats.

More recent stars like Clint Dempsey, Yannick Bolasie, Ryan Babel and Memphis Depay. The latter regularly releasing  freestyles with one of his biggest songs ‘No Love’ racking up 19 million views. on YouTube.

The question remains who is DIDE?

Favourites To Be Premier League Rapper DIDE

Sheyi Ojo 4/6

The red-hot favourite to be the mysterious rapper and “Premier League Footballer” is being heavily reported to be Sheyi Ojo who used to play for Liverpool when he signed for them back in November 2011 then 14, for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £2 million. Ojo has also been capped for England from U16-U21 levels playing 42 games and scoring 5 goals.

The reason he is being called DIDE? The winger’s diamond tattoo style and hairstyle seem to match now Cardiff winger Ojo! The reference to his playing time could also be true as even though he’s played 34 games this season scoring 1 goal his 1797 minutes only equates to 20 full 90s which shows he’s spending a lot of the time on the bench also!

On the other hand, he references that “his team stay winning” while playing for Cardiff currently 20th in the Championship. Furthermore, he has only played Premier League Football 8 times back in 2016 for Liverpool for a total of 360 minutes achieving 3 assists.

Some of DIDE’s claims seem to be very kind about himself, but it wouldn’t be like a professional footballer to be humble anyway.

Alex Iwobi 11/4

Another player being speculated is former Arsenal player and current Attacking-Midfielder for Everton Alex Iwobi who is also a nephew of the former famous footballer Jay-Jay Okocha. He certainly qualifies for the “Premier League Footballer” tag with 115 EPL games never playing outside the division since his debut in the 2015/16 season.

Another key aspect to him potentially being the rapper is back in September 2022 when he unveiled his music studio – Studio 17 (named after his shirt number) in his home. Away from feints and nutmegs and stepovers, his love of dropping bars makes him a very likely candidate.

Although his team keeps winning claim seems a reach with them currently 19th in the EPL.

Eddie Niketiah 5/1

Another player being speculated is current Arsenal striker Eddie Niketiah with many even claiming that the following lines are describing his 90th-minute winner v Manchester United back in January

“New thrill kickin’

Back line sippin’

Switch sides swiftly, then I’m onside chippin’

Catch me online ’cause my team stay winning”

Furthermore, many have hypothesised “DIDE” is some sort of short-hand anagram for “Eddie”.

Reiss Nelson 12/1

Another theory is Arsenal Winger Reiss Nelson with fans making connections that Nelson has a similar build to the singer, a tattoo on his left arm.

In the song, it is also referenced about doing work in the community which Reiss has been known to do in the area he grew up. It also says he is 23 with that being the number Nelson wears for Arsenal,

Bukayo Saka 16/1

Another fan theory is that Arsenal Star-Man Bukayo Saka is the masked rapper! The now Right-Winger started his career “Back line sipping” having been a Left-Back when he was breaking through. The line “Switch sides now I’m onside chipping” could be a reference to this goal he scored v Chelsea.

“Make 7 figures” Saka reportedly earns 70K a week which is £3.6m a year and also wears the number 7 for Arsenal. In other words the numbers would check out.

Other Contenders To Be DIDE

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha and Chelsea Right-Back can be gotten at 33/1 while former Manchester United, West Ham and current Nottingham Forrest player Jesse Lingard can be gotten at 50/1.
