Newmarket Racing Tips Day 2 – Niall Cronin

Day two of the July Meeting at Newmarket and it is hard to look beyond the favourite in the feature, Group One Falmouth Stakes.

Form And Class Is Permanent
Usherette just looks to be a notch above any of her six rivals in the Falmouth Stakes on Thursday and can be yet another big winner for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation. The 4/6 odds on offer are certainly fairly short but Usherette has put the form in the book and it’s hard to argue with it.

With Euro Charline ruled out and now retired, just the seven will go to post for the race so only two places will be paid out but that won’t matter to favourite backers who will probably be quite pleased to take the 4/6.

Admittedly, the ground is likely to be quicker than she has run on, however, some showers are forecast and if they arrive, the confidence could only grow behind Andre Fabre’s four-year-old.

Amazing Maria is a course and distance winner having won this race last year and Alice Springs can be expected to run a big race having not got the clearest of runs last time but Usherette has gone from strength to strength, winning over seven, eight and nine furlongs…

and she probably looks the most solid bet of the entire meeting.

Cherry on top
Sheikh Fahad will still be on a high after winning the Newmarket Town Plate yesterday but he can enjoy seeing his colours carried to victory in the Group Two Cherry Hinton Stakes by Bletchley. The daughter of Makfi caused a 25/1 upset when winning on her debut at Nottingham and stepped forward again as a 16/1 chance to finish second behind Brave Anna at Royal Ascot.

Bletchley can be expected to improve for that experience at Royal Ascot as she was still a bit green and although there’s no such fancy odds available on this occasion…

this could well prove to be one of Oisin Murphy’s biggest wins since being promoted in the Qatar Racing ranks.

Recommended Bets:
Bletchley (5/2) – 3:45 Newmarket
Usherette (8/13) – 4:15 Newmarket
