Mayo Team News

Below you can find Mayo’s team to play Tyrone on Saturday evening.

Mayo Manager Kevin McStay has made 4 changes from the starting side that lost to Kerry last weekend.

Most notably, Rob Hennelly takes the place of Colm Reape in goals. Hennelly of course is not lacking in experience having been the Mayo no. 1 for years and representing his county in multiple All-Ireland Finals.

Enda Hession comes into the starting lineup at no. 7 after being used as a substitute in Tralee.

Diarmuid Duffy (19), captain of the 2022 Mayo minor team is listed for his first start at wing-forward.

Stephen Coen is listed to start in the half-back line although he was also listed to start last weekend but instead came in later as a sub.

Tyrone v Mayo Prediction

This is an important game for both teams but for different reasons. Mayo are 3rd in the league table with 4 points from their first 3 games. A win here would more or less secure safety for the Westerners.

Tyrone on the other hand have only 2 points to their credit from the opening three rounds of action which sees them occupy 6th place in the table. If they lose here then they could be in a relegation scrap down the home stretch of this league campaign.

Mayo have impressed thus far with an 8-point win in Galway on the opening weekend followed up by a 1-point victory over Dublin in Castlebar. They were brought back down to earth by Kerry last time out as David Clifford kicked the game-winner with the last kick of the game down in Tralee.

Tyrone on the other hand have underwhelmed to this point. After a solid opening-round home win against Roscommon, they have now lost 2 on the bounce. First against Derry by a margin of 6 points and last weekend Galway beat them by the minimum in Healy Park.

Despite Tyrone not having blown me away with their performances so far (even in their win against Roscommon), I think they could cause a surprise in this game. Why’s that? Well, firstly Mayo are playing in their 2nd consecutive away game after a long trip down to Kerry last weekend. Tyrone on the other hand are playing at home for the 2nd consecutive week. That should play into the hands of the Ulster men.

Another factor working in Tyrone’s favour is that Mayo are probably being a little overrated in the betting market right now. They were impressive against Galway in the opening round no doubt. But since then they beat Dublin at home by a point in large part thanks to a lucky 2nd half-goal that was turned home from an undercooked point effort.

The Dubs probably played more of the football in that game and could count themselves unlucky not to have gotten the win. Against Kerry, Mayo in typical Mayo fashion hung in and almost secured a result but most people who watched that game could agree that Kerry looked comfortably the better team on the night.

Tip: Tyrone @ 13/8

Dublin Team News

Dublin are yet to name their team for this Saturday’s game against Kerry.

Kerry Team News

Below you can find Kerry’s squad that has been selected for this game against Dublin.

Jack O’Connor has opted to retain the same start XV that beat Mayo last weekend.

Dublin v Kerry Prediction

Kerry have bounced back well from an opening round home loss to Derry by winning two games on the trot, first a 9-point win over Monaghan before a 1-point last gasp win against Mayo last weekend. Those results see Kerry 2nd in the league table.

Dublin opened up their league campaign with a shock loss to Monaghan in Croke Park. Things didn’t get better the following weekend as the Boys in Blue left Castlebar with no points to show for their travels after Mayo scored a late late game-winning point. Dessie Farrell’s side would register their first win of the campaign last Saturday after an impressive 2nd half performance against Roscommon.

Dublin at 6/4 in Croke Park is tempting but I don’t think it’s the right bet this time around. Mayo Manager Kevin McStay in his post-match interview last week mentioned that Kerry were basically playing their Championship XV. It was an astute observation by McStay and points to the idea that Kerry want to lay down a marker in this league campaign having sleepwalked through the competition last season.

Dublin’s XV on the other hand will look quite different come the business end of the Championship. With that said, I’ve no doubt the Dubs will raise their intensity for this game with The Kingdom coming to town. However, I think Kerry’s forwards, particularly with the 2 Cliffords back in the starting lineup, will have too much firepower for Dublin to keep up with.

Galway Team News

You can see Galway’s squad to face Derry on Sunday below.

There is only one change to the team that started last week against Tyrone as Céin Darcy takes Matthew Tierney’s place at no. 11.

Derry Team News

Derry have yet to announce their team to face Galway.

Galway v Derry Prediction

Galway will be coming into this game with some confidence after beating Tyrone up in Omagh by the minimum last weekend. Previous to that they had secured just 1 point from their opening 2 league games. That point came courtesy of a draw against Roscommon while they lost at home to Mayo by 8 points in the opening round.

Derry are the form team in the country right now with 3 wins from 3 outings which sees them top of the league and with a points differential of +20. The highlight of those wins came in the opening round when they beat Kerry by a point but their subsequent victories over Tyrone (by 6 points) and Monaghan (by 13 points) are nothing to be sniffed at either.

So Derry to win this one at a canter then? Not quite, even if that’s what the form book might suggest. Our friends at Met Eireann are forecasting strong winds between 18-23 km/h for this game in Salthill and rain could also be a factor (15% chance of it per the latest forecast). The weather factor should play into Galway’s hands in keeping this a tight contest.

Salthill and Pearse Stadium is not an easy place to go and with Galway’s form looking progressive having improved each time we’ve seen them since their first outing of the season I think there’s value to be had on them in the handicap betting here.

Tip: Galway +3 @ Evens
