RTÉ Sports Personality of the Year

Outright Betting

There may be a clear favourite to win this year’s RTÉ’s Sportsperson of the Year award, but some optimistic locals are backing Tipperary’s All-Ireland stars to be decorated at the end of the year following their victory over Kilkenny on Sunday.

We cut the odds on any Tipperary Hurling player to scoop the award into 100/1 from 200/1

…after they lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup for the 28th time on Sunday with Noel McGrath and Seamus Callanan the main two candidates to be crowned Hurler of the Year.

They have it all to do however as golfer Shane Lowry is the runaway 1/20 favourite to pick up the accolade after winning his first major championship at The Open in Portrush in July.

Last year’s winner Johnny Sexton and teammate Peter O’Mahony are 20/1 and 25/1 respectively ahead of the Rugby World Cup kick-off in Japan next month.

We’ll face a few very hefty payouts if it happens, but we’re still confident the award is going to an Offaly man instead.
